Remember the two WHS seniors, Derek Feriancek and Cody Hou, who self-taught Japanese for two years and participated in the National Japan Bowl in Washington DC last month? Not only had they won the 3rd place at the most advanced Level 4 competition, they have been invited to Japan from August 2 through 10 as part of the "Kakehashi Project" by the Japanese Government.
In addition to the Level 4 champion team who had already received a grant from the Mazda Foundation, additional top 23 students have been invited to visit and observe high-tech industries and cultural heritage sites while staying with the host families in Japan.
Cody and Derek raised funds to go to the Nationals and received a generous support from their friends, families, and the community (www.youcaring.com/whs). Now they are sponsored by the Government of Japan to go see the real Japan with their own eyes.
