New School Start Time Changes ApprovedThe Wayzata School Board unanimously approved new school start times effective for the upcoming 2016-17 school year at the regular December 14 board meeting. Superintendent Chace Anderson presented his recommendation, originally shared with the Board at the December 7 work session, prior to the Board taking action. The following new school start times were approved by the Board."From an educational perspective, I believe this recommendation to be an excellent set of start times that are responsive to and prioritize students' developmental learning needs," emphasized Anderson. "There will be some implementation challenges and the changes will require adjustments from students, staff, families and the community." Superintendent Anderson assured the Board that district leadership and staff will work hard to ensure a successful transition and implementation."Each Board member has read close to 2,000 website responses, hundreds of emails, met with constituents, questioned, listened and deliberated," shared Board Chair Linda Cohen. "Board members have been respectful at all times and each has formed his or her opinion with great integrity."Board members agreed that the new start times will meet the learning needs of all students and positively contribute to their health and well being. "Looking forward I know that all of our students have the potential to be successful next year and beyond," said Board Member Sarah Johansen. "I hope that our community will come together as we have done for decades to ensure the success of each and every student in our district."You can continue to provide online feedback by clicking the button below.
