The Wayzata Speech Team has completed one of their most successful seasons in team history! The team competed in the Section 6AA tournament on Wednesday, March 19, in the thirteen speech categories. Wayzata won three of the categories, with Andrew Stern placing 1st in Creative Expression, Zoe Tu winning Informative Speaking, and Lola Alugo named the champion in Poetry Interpretation. It was Zoe Tu's second straight section championship and her third straight trip to State. Also qualifying for the State Tournament were Hank Lee in Discussion and Camille Smith in Dramatic Interpretation. The five state qualifiers is the most the team has had in one year.
The State Tournament was held on Friday, April 11, at Blaine High School. After three preliminary rounds, Camille Smith and Zoe Tu advanced to the final round in their categories, with Smith finishing in 4th place and Tu finishing in 8th place. It was also the first time that the team has had two state medalists in one year.
